Manufacturing Director

The Opportunity 
Our client, America’s most iconic vehicle brand is exploring the market for exceptional Multi-Site Manufacturing Executive talent (Director of Manufacturing). Director of Manufacturing Executives are critical to the success of the Company and their ability to deliver innovative, high-quality vehicles that our customers want and need. Their Manufacturing Executives are highly visible members of the local community and responsible for hundreds and thousands of employees and jobs. Their manufacturing footprint includes over 40 plants throughout North and South America with 20 plants in the US. The plants vary in size from 500 to over 10,000 employees and the company continues to invest millions in their North America Manufacturing operations. 

What you’ll be able to do:
The Directors of Manufacturing oversee the Plant Managers who are CEO of their facilities delivering cost, quality and ensuring the plant culture aligns to our corporate values. Some of their key responsibilities will include: 
  • Building a strong relationship with all employees and the Union and creating a positive culture aligned with Company values 
  • Ensuring operational stability by implementing disciplined processes and standards; Ensuring the plant/s meets jobs per hour, rolled -throughput-yield, quality, and other key metrics 

Role Description 
  • Be the face of the Company for suppliers, the community, and regulatory agencies 
  • Managing a multi-million-dollar budget 
  • Leading transformation and change management efforts and partnering with the product development and quality organizations to ensure successful launch of new products 

REQUIREMENTS
  • A Bachelor of Science degree, preferably in engineering or technical field 
  • 15+ years of progressive responsibilities and prior experience in Plant Management in a high-volume, complex manufacturing environment culminating to leading multiple plants 
  • Deep knowledge of lean manufacturing principles, TPS and standardized work 
  • Experience managing a P&L and sizable labor and overhead budgets of $100M+ 
  • Hands on leader who has strong relationship buildings skills and experience interfacing with hourly and salaried employees within a manufacturing environment 
  • A charismatic communicator that can articulate a clear vision and mission and inspire others 
  • Financial and data acumen 
  • Proven ability to leverage data and insights to put the right measures in place to drive strong plant performance including business planning experience 
  • Servant leader who has a high emotional intelligence, the ability to resolve problems and thrive under pressure. 
  • A role model who leads by example and has a track record of establishing trust with their team 
  • A leader who has an eye for talent and ability to build and develop a diverse and inclusive team 
  • Union negotiation experience, preferably UAW 

Our preferred requirements 
  • Advanced business degree (MBA or similar) 
  • Experience in either auto vehicle assembly or powertrain operations
